The gotcha: the quickstart pushes you straight toward funding — "Minimum deposit: $5.00" via "Billing → Add Funds, or click the Deposit icon in the top-right" — so the $1 trial is deliberately just a taste, and the free-tier rate cap (100 requests/minute) is generous relative to how far $1 goes.
